New
100% cotton Leavers lace: an heirloom textile, still made the way it was in the 1800s, on one of the last Leavers machines working anywhere in the world. It is laid over a sheer illusion lining. The rounded basque bodice is a true corset, built from individually constructed panels, boning and a laced back.
The fitted skirt cuts high over the sides of the hips and drops lower at the front and back. Two layers of fringe bring the movement: a long one falling from the waist, and a shorter one tracing the curved hem.
Each Remi is cut and constructed individually in our Oceanside studio. The lace comes in small, limited lengths; its pattern shifts slightly from dress to dress, but its color does not.

Before You Order
Lining color. The illusion lining shows through the lace, so choose the one closest to your skin. Tan, shown on the model, is a deep, warm tan for medium to deeper skin tones. Fair is a soft peach nude for fair skin tones. Not sure which? Send a photo of your arm in daylight to hello@southofwestbridal.com and we will help you choose.
The lace. The pattern placement differs slightly from the photographs and from dress to dress. The color stays the same.
Fringe. The fringe is bound and double-stitched. A few loose fibers release in the first wear; this is expected and does not affect the dress.

Cut from cotton lace woven in mills between the 1940s and 1970s, sourced in small lots and revived in our Oceanside studio. A fully boned bodice draws into a pointed V-waist and laces closed through gold grommets. A ruffle frames the neckline, and fine cut fringe trails down the front and over the hips of the skirt.
The open lace lets the cream linen beneath show through, and the fringe moves with every step.
Each Marlowe is cut from a different length of lace, so its pattern and tone are its own. How we source and work with vintage lace.

Fit. Choose your size by bust and waist. The Marlowe runs a little large, especially through the bodice; if you are between sizes, or want a close fit, choose the smaller. The lace and lining give the skirt an easy fit through the hips, and the laced back adjusts 1–2" through the bust and waist.

Color. Vintage lace is sourced in small lots, so its tone ranges from soft ivory and natural cotton to warm cream. Your piece will not match the photographs exactly, and it will not match bright white bridal fabric.
The lace. Your piece is cut from its own length of vintage lace. The pattern, and small marks or irregularities in the weave, will differ from the photographs and from every other piece. This is the nature of the material, not a flaw.
Fringe. The fringe is bound and double-stitched. A few loose fibers release in the first wear; this is expected and does not affect the dress.
Length. The mini measures about 23" from neckline to hem. Choose Added length (+2") for more coverage.

About the Label
South of West is an ode to Americana: bridal pieces that feel personal, unexpected and a little difficult to categorize. Made in small numbers, in the belief that the things we keep should mean something.
Many South of West pieces begin with American textiles that have already lived a life. Mill lace from the 1940s to the 1970s, antique linens and heirloom fabrics are reworked into new heirlooms, each with its own history, character and small imperfections.
Every piece is cut and finished by hand in our Oceanside studio, one at a time. Custom work is designed with you, from the first conversation to the final fitting.
