Garment Care

South of West garments are handmade using delicate materials, including vintage cotton leaver lace, cotton bobbin lace, antique Alencon lace, silk, and synthetic fringe. Handle your piece gently to preserve its texture, shape, and detailing.

Cleaning

Do not machine wash or tumble dry. Structured garments with boning, metal grommets, or mixed materials should not be soaked or submerged. For full cleaning, consult a professional experienced with vintage textiles and bridal garments. Let them know about any delicate trims or water-soluble tailor’s marks.

Spot Care

For a small spill, gently blot with a clean white cloth. Avoid rubbing, scrubbing, bleach, stain removers, or household cleaning products. Contact us before treating an unfamiliar stain.

Blue Tailor’s Marks

We use blue, water-soluble fabric pens to mark placement details during construction. Occasionally, a mark may be missed or reappear after drying. To remove it, wet the marked area with plain cool water using a spray bottle or a clean, very damp white washcloth, then allow it to air dry completely. Avoid heat, steam, or cleaning products until the mark is fully removed. If it remains or you prefer assistance, contact us.

Wrinkles & Pressing

Avoid direct heat on lace, synthetic fringe, trims, and structured areas. Contact us for guidance before steaming or ironing your garment, as care needs vary by fabric and construction.

Lace & Fringe

Remove jewelry before dressing and keep delicate textiles away from rough surfaces, Velcro, and anything that could snag. Some shedding may occur along cut synthetic fringe edges. Do not pull loose strands or threads. If you notice a snag or unraveling, contact us before trimming or attempting a repair.

Storage

Store clean and completely dry in a cool place away from direct sunlight. Use a breathable garment bag and support the garment with its hanging loops, where provided. Heavy crochet or lace pieces are best stored flat or gently folded with acid-free tissue to prevent stretching. Keep fringe lying smoothly without tight folds.

Alterations

If tailoring is needed, choose a seamstress experienced with corsetry and delicate or vintage textiles. Share your event date and allow time for a final fitting.
